Freckles and Lentigines

Freckles and Lentigines Removal: Clear Pigmentation

Freckles and Lentigines (often called Sun-Spots or Age Spots) are common pigmented spots resulting from a combination of genetics and cumulative sun exposure. While harmless, many individuals seek treatment for cosmetic reasons. At Dr. Kumar Skin & Laser Clinic, Jamshedpur, we offer specialized treatments, including advanced laser therapy, to safely and effectively lighten or remove these spots and restore an even, clear complexion.

What Are Freckles and Lentigines?

Freckles and lentigines are flat, pigmented spots that result from excess melanin in the skin:

  • Freckles (Ephelides): Common in younger individuals with fair skin, these spots darken with sun exposure and often fade in winter.
  • Lentigines (Age Spots or Liver Spots): Caused by cumulative sun damage and aging, these persistent dark spots are more common in adults over 40.

Though harmless, they may become a cosmetic concern, especially when they appear on the face, neck, or hands.

Common Causes of Freckles and Lentigines

  • UV Exposure: Sunlight is the #1 trigger for pigment formation
  • Genetics: Freckles are often hereditary
  • Aging: Long-term sun exposure increases lentigines over time
  • Hormonal Fluctuations: Can influence melanin activity

Pigmented Spots We Treat

At our Jamshedpur clinic, we treat a range of pigmentary lesions:

  • Freckles (Ephelides): Light brown, sun-activated spots on face or arms
  • Solar Lentigines: Persistent dark sunspots caused by UV damage
  • Senile Lentigines (Age Spots): Common on face, chest, back, and hands in older adults
  • Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Spots left after acne or injury
  • Mixed Pigmentation: A combination of freckles, lentigines, and uneven tone
